SOMETHING BRUSHED over her forehead and she rubbed it away, snuggling deeper into the jacket. Raphael’s scent surrounded her, so much stronger in her dreams, warmer too. She frowned in her sleep, and felt the familiar touch of his fingers as he smoothed away the wrinkles the frown created on her forehead.
“Raphael,” she breathed, terrified that he’d disappear if she spoke too loudly.
“Lubimaya.” His voice was the same as always, the same deep, midnight velvet sound. Wasn’t it? Did he seem different? Was he weaker already? Or was she simply imposing her own fears, finding changes that weren’t there?
His arms tightened around her, as if sensing her concerns. “I am stronger than they know, my Cyn.”
She nodded, wrapping her arms over his where they held her, gripping tightly as if she could somehow keep him with her even when she woke up.
“You want to know what everyone—” she started to ask, but he interrupted.
“I want only to know that you are safe and whole in my absence.”
She patted his crossed arms. “You know me. I’m just fine.”
“You’re not, but that will have to wait until I return.”
Her heart clenched. He had so much confidence in her. She spoke quickly to cover her own insecurities.
“I talked to Juro. He said Lucas—”
“I know what Lucas will do. My time is short, lubimaya. You must watch and tell Lucas what you see. He will know what to do with it.”
Cyn started to ask what he meant, when suddenly she was somewhere else, some when else, and seeing the world through Raphael’s eyes . . .
